Pivots and Perseverance
Session 5/Week 3
The Heroes first full week in the studio after missing days due to maintenance/remodeling work
in the building was a success! Not only did they have to pivot from days missed, but several
of their Quest teammates were out this week due to illness. I watched them make
adjustments and diligently carry on, staying on task with their Core Skills and
their Quest challenges. I call that perseverance!
Not everything this week was hard work. Our Communications task this session
will require them to write instructions about how to do a project or create
something. To bring home the importance of details in instructions, two teams
followed the same recipe for chocolate chip cookies - a team of girls vs. a team
of boys. Ms. Sarah and I were lucky enough to be the taste testers.
The girls followed the recipe and made beautiful, tasty cookies while the boys
decided to experiment of course, using more sugar and chocolate chips than the
recipe called for. I wouldn’t call their cookies beautiful, but Ms. Sarah and I
agreed that they sure were tasty!
The Heroes showed diligence this week and had fun making cookies, while
hopefully learning something about the importance of details in instructions. I call
that a win!
With the chance of inclement weather next week, we guides came up with a plan
to keep them busy with their Quest from home - just in case. After watching them
this week, I have no doubt that they will make progress, whether in the studio or
from home. Pivots and perseverance!
