The Start of a New Session: The Importance of Civility

An Opportunity for Growth

There is the sense of a new start as we embark on this session – a new year, a new space – a new focus in the studio bringing anticipation and excitement. There is a sense of ownership and pride among the heroes in their new space. After all, they participated in getting it ready – unpacking, painting, and cleaning.

In this new session, after much thought and discussion between Ms. Sarah, the guides, and the heroes, our young geniuses turn their attention to the character trait of civility in both work and play. Civility can be expressed in many ways – kindness, sharing, and respect – respect for themselves, their fellow heroes, and their guides.

As a guide, I have observed increased peacefulness and productivity in the studio. I have been amazed at how the heroes have embraced new guardrails and taken care of issues with empathy and intelligence when given choices. This new environment, both physical and mental, provides them the space they need to achieve the goals they have set for themselves.

As parents, I encourage you to extend the focus on civility into your home. As Robert Fulghum states in his book, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, kindness is an important key to living a balanced life, even for us adults.

Peace and Blessings,
