Position: Spark (4-8 yo) and/or Elementary (7-13 yo) Apprentice Guide
If your passion is to fuel the love of learning in others while advancing your own personal and professional growth, this is your chance to get in on the ground floor of one of the world’s most innovative schools.
We are seeking smart, entrepreneurial individuals who are passionate about guiding children on their journey of lifelong learning and who possess an understanding of the Hero’s Journey and the Socratic Method.
The Apprentice Guide will work with a Lead Guide to learn to lead Socratic discussions and will learn how to work with the Acton Academy learning design gamefication, processes, and systems.
The Apprentice Guide will equip our Heroes to explore and take ownership of their learning, monitor progress on learner-driven, individualized learning plans, and create life-oriented projects that nurture curiosity.

Job Type: Full-time or Part-time Contractor or Volunteer Position
Preferred experience and skills: Experience managing mixed aged groups of children; experience planning and implementing games or projects; coaching or mentoring experience a plus; a passion for disruptive education opportunities; deeply curious and ready to learn and work hard; agile with online learning; excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills; entrepreneurial thinker; reader; deep heart for children and a trust and respect for their ability to learn and grow without heavy adult intervention; kind-hearted and tough-minded; independent worker; calm demeanor and secure in being on a Hero’s Journey. Ideally, a guide at Acton would want to cross-train to be able to open their own Acton in the future.
Training: If working in the Spark Studio, we prefer certification in the Montessori 3-6 Studio. In the Discovery studio, we prefer experience in the Montessori 6-9 Studio.

A Learner Driven School
Students create and sign a Contract of Promises describing how each individual will act and the consequences for violating community norms.
Mentor teams encourage younger and older students to listen, affirm, set goals and hold each other accountable.
21st Century Learning
The latest in educational tools and technology for self paced mastery of reading, writing and math skills.
Deep Socratic discussions about heroes, history and self governance to hone critical thinking skills and the ability to powerfully think, write and speak.
Measuring Mastery
Young heroes celebrate the mastery of tools, skills and character by earning badges, assembling portfolios and taking part in public exhibitions.
Parents use badges to track academic progress in Core Skills like reading, writing, math and spelling and character development in “Learn to Be” Badges.
Portfolios and the Journey Tracker (our internal goal-setting and tracking software) captures rough drafts, photos, and other creative work.
Public exhibitions at the end of most Quests allow young heroes to present work to experts, customers or the public for a real world test.
